Events and Activities

General Meetings

Weekly, the organization hosts general meetings on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM Central Time. Currently, due to COVID, these meetings are happening virtually, using Discord as the main platform.

At meetings, officers will present the members with any updates on the organization as well as then break out into free play, where we use Lichess.org as the main platform to play

Tournaments

While our club is accessible to all levels, each month we host at least 3 virtual tournaments, with varying formats. Occasionally, we will host a rated tournament while all others are unrated. Members can register for our tournaments using a Google Form that is sent out at the first of each month that includes registrations for the entire month's tournaments.

Our tournament styles include Round Robin, Round Robin Blitz, LiChess Swiss Style, Double Elimination Bracket, and Single Elimination Bracket. Rules for our tournaments are sent out the night before tournament day for members to read over and become familiar with. Tournaments are hosted on Discord and take place once a month during the week and twice a month during the weekends.

Additional Activities

Social Activities

Virtually, these may look different for our members and can include a variety of virtual events including movie and game night and other activities for members to engage with one another.

Rowdy Knights

This is our volunteer program. An after school program offered free to all school districts around the Greater San Antonio Area, Rowdy Knights currently has 11 coaches and is providing free lessons to K-12 students.

Virtual Intercollegiate Tournament

Currently being worked on by the President, this tournament will feature schools from around the country and will be hosted virtually. Hopefully, the aim is to provide a free and casual tournament for everyone to participate in, unique to the typical USCF rated, highly competitive college tournaments that usually take place.

Daily Puzzles

Every day, an officer posts a chess puzzle on our Discord for members to try to solve. The first person who solves the puzzle receives a point and at the end of the semester the individual with the most points will receive a small prize!

Social Media

Our social media, whose links can be found on our Contact Us page, is constantly updated with memes, puzzles, informational posts, event announcements, and more!

Streaming

Two of our officers, Isabella and Anthony, currently maintain the Twitch schedule and will play members and others during the stream as well as give advice and feedback on their chess plays.
